Scope and content

This sub-series comprises materials related to lectures funded by the Courses & Workshops program. It contains reports, correspondence, and other organisational and administrative documentation.

EMBO Lectureships were first initiated in 1969, when the EMBO Council set aside $10,000 to fund individual or multiple lectures by EMBO Members at universities and scientific events, in many ways acting as a precursor to the Plenary Lectures which EMBO currently funds. This was an experimental programme initially intended to run for a year. At the 1981 council meeting, it was suggested that lectureships be eliminated from the Courses and Workshops Programme, and that if applications were received for lectureships were received, they
should be considered in competition with courses and workshops. Due to this fact, and the strain that already existed on the programme's budget, the programme stopped supporting the initiative. The last lectureships were therefore held in 1981.
