This series comprises materials relating to the relationship between the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), and the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, formerly known as the Département Féderal Politique. It contains correspondence, reports, meeting documents, and other organisational and administrative documentation in both English and French.

In 1969, the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) was formally established as a non-profit association under Swiss law, with its legal seat in Geneva. This status was granted in agreement with the Swiss Federal Government, which recognized EMBO’s mission to foster international cooperation in the life sciences. The arrangement provided EMBO with a stable legal framework and diplomatic standing, enabling it to operate independently while coordinating scientific programmes across member states.
